This policy describes our current privacy practices for the Yahoo Media brands, websites, features, products, apps, software and other services ("Media Services"). All information that is collected, provided to Yahoo or stored in your Yahoo Account will be treated, used and protected in accordance with the Yahoo Privacy Policy. This information may change as Yahoo revises these Media Services by adding or removing features or using different service providers. Some features are only available if you are a registered user. This page describes specific privacy practices with respect to Yahoo's Media related products, including Yahoo Autos, Yahoo Celebrity, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Music, My Yahoo, Yahoo News, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Shopping, and Yahoo Weather.

Information Collection & Use Practices

  • We may personalize articles, videos, and other content shown to you based on your interests. We determine interests using what we may know about you, including information you provide to us directly, your browsing activity, watch history, items liked and followed, media consumed, and searches.
  • Yahoo collects information about your activity on our services such as title queries, watch history and page views for product improvements, research and analysis, and to help provide you a more personalized experience.
  • We offer suggestion and feedback options within our products which allow you to send us comments and feedback regarding our products. These forms may ask for various information to respond to your inquiry.
  • On some Media Services, by default, we will send email notifications related to the service (for example, a fantasy sports game) in which you are participating. Some games provide you with controls for the type and frequency of these emails. We may also send push notifications to your device related to activity on the service (for example, when you receive a new follow request).

Information Sharing & Disclosure Practices

  • Comments you make in the Media Services may be public and may include your name, nickname, avatar, image and/or contact information associated with your account. These comments may also be surfaced to other users.
  • You may share articles, videos, and other content using our email or other social media sharing features. When using these features, your name, user profile/name, and/or email address may be visible to the recipient(s).
  • When you complete a form to receive more information (e.g., quotes, travel services, real estate services) from our partners and/or third parties, your information will be shared with, or in some cases collected directly by, these partners and/or third parties as described on those forms. To learn how they use your information, please review their respective privacy policies. They are solely responsible for their use of this information.
  • Some features on Yahoo may be provided by partners that collect information from our site or from services associated with our site but hosted by the partner.
  • We also analyze and store all other content and other information you provide when you use our Services.
  • This can also include information within or about the content you provide, such as photos, videos, attachments and other communications. For example, when it's included as part of your images, we may collect information describing your camera, camera settings, or EXIF information. This information allows us to improve our services and provide additional features and functionality.
  • Some Media Services may collect your location to provide various services. This information may be used in accordance with our Location Privacy practices.

Yahoo Finance

Yahoo Finance offers a wide variety of financial resources that anyone can access. To customize Yahoo Finance and to take advantage of certain offerings, you must be a registered user.

Information Collection and Use Practices

Stock Portfolio

  • In addition to registration, if you would like to track a stock portfolio you will need to create a portfolio and, at a minimum, include the stock or fund ticker symbols.
  • You can view this portfolio within Yahoo Finance or from a number of other Yahoo products and services. Your stock portfolio ticker symbols are used to present the information you specify.

Calculators

  • You do not need to be logged-in to your account to use the calculator tools. Certain calculator tools on Yahoo Finance are provided by a third party.
  • Linked Accounts In Yahoo Finance My Portfolio
    • If you would like to see your trading data, you can link your brokerage accounts in My Portfolio. Yahoo does not save your brokerage login credentials. If you link your brokerage accounts, My Portfolio may collect and store the following type of information: brokerage name, account balances, and number of shares purchased and stock symbol. Yahoo will collect and store this information to show you your balance and holdings data, improve your product experience, reduce latency and send you breaking news or important alerts about your positions.

Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices

  • My Portfolio may share:
    • Information to process your transactions and maintain your account with your existing brokerage accounts which accounts you have linked to My Portfolio;
    • Information with Yahoo's service providers, such as TradeIt and any other types of companies who provide services on Yahoo's behalf;
    • Information collected for our affiliates' everyday business purposes. We will not share information regarding your creditworthiness.
  • Yahoo Finance has relationships with partners who provide tools that are linked from our services. When you use these tools, our partners may be collecting information from you directly.
  • Yahoo Finance has other partners with whom we will share non-personal information collected from you, without restriction, such as when you use tools such as mortgage calculators.
  • Yahoo Finance may also share personal information about you with a non-affiliated Yahoo Finance partner who has an independent right to use that information, but only if you have been given notice and the opportunity to opt-out of such sharing.
    • Yahoo is not responsible for the privacy policies of sites that are linked to from Yahoo Finance or anywhere on Yahoo.

Community from Yahoo Finance

Community provides users with a forum to connect with other investors and share investment insights.

Information Collection & Use Practices 

Account Information

  • When you create your Community profile, you must provide certain account information, such as name and username.
  • This information will be used to maintain your profile.

Subscribers 

  • If you choose to register for a Community subscription, you will need to provide your credit card and billing information.
  • This information will be used by Yahoo Finance to process your subscription and charge your credit card pursuant to the plan that you have selected.
  • This information will be stored in your Yahoo Finance account and you may view or update it at any time.

Information Sharing & Disclosure Practices

Account Privacy 

  • When you sign up for Community, you will have the option to make your profile public or private.
  • If you choose to make your account public, any content you share on Community, including comments, images, videos, written posts, or other information related to portfolio transactions, will be viewable by all users on Community, regardless of whether they follow you.
  • If you choose to make your account private, only users that you approve can follow you and see the content that you share.
  • Some information, like your first name and username, can be seen by anyone on Community. Furthermore, if you comment on or interact with content posted by another user, that activity can be seen by the user's followers, or anyone on Community if the user's profile is public.

My Portfolio

  • If you have a connected brokerage account, information stored in My Portfolio will be shared with your followers if you have a private profile. If you have a public profile, this information can be seen by anyone on Community. This includes information about your portfolio assets and trades that you place.
  • This data is only collected if you choose to link a brokerage account through My Portfolio.

My Yahoo

  • My Yahoo is a service for you to personalize with news feeds and other web services that interest you. To customize My Yahoo, you must be a registered Yahoo user.

Information Collection and Use Practices 

  • My Yahoo modules allow you to interact with web services provided by Yahoo and third-parties.
  • When you use a module to access third-party services such as YouTube, Yahoo will collect information about how you interact with that module to improve My Yahoo and personalize your services. That third-party may collect information as you interact with its services.

Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

  • You can remove a module by clicking the gear in the lower corner of the module and selecting "Remove."

Yahoo Sports

  • In season-long Fantasy sports leagues, by default, your email address is visible to others in the league. You can change this setting in each game.
  • Account information may retained for a longer period when required by law. For example, Our paid Fantasy Sports products may be required to retain account information and user activity records for longer periods to meet legal and regulatory obligations in certain jurisdictions even if your primary Yahoo Account is deleted at your own request, through inactivity, or because some other situation renders your primary Yahoo Account inactive.

Yahoo Shopping

Yahoo Shopping provides our users with access to thousands of merchants and products in one place. You do not need to be a registered user to make purchases. Yahoo Shopping also provides guides and product recommendations. Products and services shown on Yahoo Shopping are only available for purchase, if at all, from third party merchants on their respective sites. These third party merchants may use cookies and other technologies to collect information about your navigation from Yahoo Shopping and are controlled by their Terms and Privacy Policies.

Information Collection and Use Practices

Yahoo may collect and combine information when you interact with Yahoo Shopping according to Yahoo's Privacy Policy.

  • Purchases: When making a purchase, the merchant will ask for your personal information. Each merchant receives your personal and order information directly. Yahoo Shopping does not see, collect, store, or use this information. Each merchant is solely responsible for their use of your information.
  • Browser Extensions: If installed, the Yahoo Shopping Browser extension will collect device information and location information. You can learn more about and manage your location permissions on our Locations page and by visiting the location settings tool on your devices.

Comments

  • Posting Comments: Users logged in to Yahoo can comment. Your profile is linked to your comments, and your display name and profile photo are visible to other users.
  • Deleting Comments: You can delete a comment you have posted by selecting the 'delete' option next to the comment you wish to remove.
  • Viewing Your Comments: Your comments are visible to you on the "My Comments" tab next to the commenting streams.
