This policy describes our current privacy practices for the Verizon Media Media brands, websites, features, products, apps, software and other services (‘Media Services’).  All information that is collected, given to Verizon Media or stored in your Verizon Media Account will be treated, used and protected in accordance with the Verizon Media Privacy Policy. This information may change as Verizon Media revises these Media Services by adding or removing features, or using different service providers. Some features are only available if you are a registered user. Please visit Help if you have questions about these Media Services.

This page describes specific privacy practices with respect to Yahoo Answers, Yahoo Autos, Yahoo Celebrity, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Music, My Yahoo, Yahoo News, Rivals, Yahoo Sports, Yahoo View and Yahoo Weather. 

Personalisation of content, along with ads, is a fundamental part of the Services provided by Verizon Media.  The use of your information for personalisation is central to our agreement with you and how we operate.

Information Collection & Use Practices

  • We may personalise articles, videos and other content shown to you based on your interests. We determine interests using what we may know about you, including information you provide to us directly, your browsing activity, watched history, items liked and followed, media consumed, and searches. 
  • Verizon Media collects information about your activity on our services such as title queries, watched history and page views for product improvements, research and analysis, and to help provide you a more personalized experience.
  • We offer suggestion and feedback options within our products that allow you to send us comments and feedback regarding our products. These forms may ask for various information to enable us to respond to your enquiry.
  • On some Media Services, by default, we will send email notifications related to the service (for example, a fantasy sports game) in which you are participating. Some games provide you with controls for the type and frequency of these emails.

Information Sharing & Disclosure Practices

  • Comments you make in the Media Services are public and may include your name, nickname, avatar, image and/or contact information associated with your account. These comments may also be surfaced to other users.
  • You may share articles, videos, and other content using our email or other social media sharing features. When using these features, your name, user profile/name, and/or email address may be visible to the recipient(s). 
  • When you complete a form to receive more information (e.g. quotes, travel services, real estate services) from our partners and/or third parties, your information will be shared with, or in some cases collected directly by, these partners and/or third parties as described on those forms. To learn how they use your information, please review their respective privacy policies. They are solely responsible for their use of this information.
  • Some features on Verizon Media Media Services may be provided by partners that collect information from our site or from services associated with our site but hosted by the partner.
  • We also analyse and store all other content and other information you provide when you use our Services in accordance with the Verizon Media Privacy Policy.
  • This can also include information within or about the content you provide, such as photos, attachments and other communications. For example, when it’s included as part of your images, we may collect information relating to your camera, camera settings or EXIF information. This information allows us to improve our services and provide additional features and functionality.
  • Some Media Services may collect your location in order to provide various services. This information may be used in accordance with our Location Privacy practices.

Yahoo Answers 

Information collection and use practices

  • Yahoo Answers collects information about your activity, including specific questions, answers, comments and votes. Some of the information collected may constitute your personal information (such as your name or email address). For more information on how we process your personal information, please consult the Verizon Media Privacy Policy. 
  • You can see your activity and watchlist, edit your preferences, find your profile and change your settings using Yahoo Answers  My activity. 

Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices

  • When you engage in certain activities on Yahoo Answers, such as when you ask, answer or comment on message posts, these activities will automatically be assigned or linked to either:
    • Your Yahoo User ID;
    • or any nickname you wish. 
  • Your activities will be tied to the name you select.
    • You may change this name at any time and the name linked to all previous activity will be changed as well.
  • You can make your Yahoo Messenger ID public in your profile.
    • By choosing to make your Yahoo Messenger ID/username public, all viewers of Yahoo Answers can link to your Yahoo Answers profile, where they can see your Yahoo Messenger ID.
  • All questions, answers, and comments created by you can be viewed by anyone visiting the Yahoo Answers site or visiting partner sites that include Yahoo Answers content.
  • When enabling user-to-user emails in Yahoo Answers, your Yahoo User ID and email address are not shared.

Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

  • You can add details to or delete questions you've asked for as long as the question is open.
    • Once the question has been resolved, you cannot make changes or delete your content. However, if you asked the question, you can make yourself anonymous within the product settings. 
  • You can edit and delete answers while the question being asked is open.
  • Questions, answers, comments or nicknames can be removed at any time if we determine that they violate the Terms for this product.  
    • If your account is deactivated, your content will remain (including photos and videos), but your nickname and profile picture will be anonymised. If you wish to have content removed, you will need to contact Yahoo Customer Care.

Yahoo Finance/AOL Finance

Yahoo Finance and AOL Finance offer a wide variety of financial resources that anyone can access. To customize Yahoo Finance and AOL Finance and to take advantage of certain offerings, you must be a registered user.

Information collection and use practices

Stock Portfolio

  • In addition to registration, if you would like to track a stock portfolio you will need to create a portfolio and, at a minimum, include the stock or fund ticker symbols.
  • You can view this portfolio within Yahoo Finance or from a number of other Verizon Media products and services. Your stock portfolio ticker symbols are used to present the information you specify.

Calculators

  • You do not need to be logged-in to your account to use the calculator tools.
  • Certain calculator tools on Yahoo Finance and AOL Finance are provided by a third party. 

Information sharing and disclosure practices

  • Yahoo Finance and AOL Finance have relationships with partners who provide tools that are linked to our services. When you use these tools, our partners may be collecting information from you directly. Please be aware that, when you use these tools, our partners have their own terms and privacy policies, which will govern your use of these tools.
  • Yahoo Finance and AOL Finance have other partners with whom we may share certain information collected from you, such as when you use tools such as mortgage calculators.  We do not share information that, on its own, can be used to reasonably identify or contact you (such as your name or email address).  We may share pseudonymous information, including demographic information. 
  • Yahoo is not responsible for the privacy policies of sites that are linked to from Yahoo Finance or anywhere on Yahoo.

My Yahoo

  • My Yahoo is a service which you can personalise with news feeds and other web services that interest you. To customise My Yahoo, you must be a registered Yahoo user.

Information collection and use practices

  • My Yahoo modules allow you to interact with web services provided by Yahoo and third parties.
  • When you use a module to access third-party services such as YouTube, Yahoo will collect information about how you interact with that module to improve My Yahoo and personalise your services. That third party may collect information as you interact with its services.

Practices regarding your ability to update or delete information

  • You can remove a module by clicking the gear symbol in the bottom corner of the module and selecting ‘Remove’.

Rivals.com from Yahoo Sport

Information Collection & Use

  • In order to register with Rivals.com from Yahoo Sport (Rivals.com), you will need to provide your email address, username and password at the time of registration.
  • This information will be used to process your registration and communicate with you regarding your Rivals.com account.
  • Rivals.com will verify the email address specified in your account information by sending an email containing an activation link. You will need to click on the activation link in the email to activate your Rivals.com account. 
  • If you wish to post messages on different Rivals.com home sites (e.g. Texas A&M, Duke, Michigan), you need to be a subscriber to each home site on which you wish to post a message.
  • You can opt out of receiving newsletters and marketing messages from Rivals.com in the settings. 

Subscribers

  • If you choose to register for a Rivals.com subscription, you will need to provide your credit card and billing information at the time of registration.
  • This information will be used by Rivals.com to process your subscription and charge your credit card pursuant to the plan that you have selected.
  • This information will be stored in your Rivals.com account and you can view or update it at any time. For further information as to the rights you have when we process your personal information, please consult the Verizon Media Privacy Policy.

Information Sharing & Disclosure Practices

Message boards

  • When posting messages on Rivals.com message boards, these messages may include information about yourself.
  • If you post information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.
  • By default, your Rivals.com nickname and photo will be displayed with your post. 

Publishers

  • Rivals allows access to certain parts of your information by its site publishers, message board moderators and other contracted staff so they can perform various services for you on the site, including providing notifications and welcome messages to new subscribers, feedback requests and/or other services.
  • They do not have any independent right to share this information.
  • They do not have access to credit card or other billing information.
  • Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

Members

  • If you would like to delete your Rivals.com account (which is separate from your Yahoo account), your account will be deleted from our user database within one month of your request being submitted. If your account is deleted, your message posts will remain intact but we will anonymise your name and delete your personal photo.  In order to delete your Rivals.com account, which is separate from your Yahoo account, please click here. 

Message boards

  • The message board service is available to premium subscribers.
  • You can preview your message prior to posting to see how it will be displayed to the public. This allows you to make any necessary changes before posting your message.
  • Once posted, you can edit or delete the content of your messages.

Yahoo Sport

  • In season-long Fantasy sports leagues, your email address is visible to others in the league by default. You can change this setting in each game.
  • Account information may be retained for a longer period when required by law.  For example, our paid Fantasy Sports products may be required to retain account information and user activity records for longer periods to meet legal and regulatory obligations in certain jurisdictions, even if your primary Yahoo account is deleted at your own request, through inactivity or if some other situation renders your primary Yahoo account inactive.
